Hill o’Knockgreine

Yes! I have breasted many a wave and swam where the seals did play; I walked on many a sandy beach where the seagulls fished mid the spray. But for long years now I have left it all to others both young and gay to revel there under the sunny skies and while the time away. Now it’s the country green I crave near the city where I was born I think of the green land I’m looking on and welcome the rosy morn. Though the sea is grand my heart’s in the land green Moymore and Knockgreine Hill above I listen to the songbirds’ sweet melodies in the green fields that I love. Here, where my forebears farmed the lands and thanked God for each day ‘till the days of the Confiscations when those lands were taken away! But they rose again, as time went on and eventually settled for less – but so long as they still held Moymore they still knew happiness.
