Air – The Mountains of Mourne

In those faraway days when we strolled the high ground, you culled the wild flowers that bloomed all around; then later we sat ‘neath the mountain ash bough, and gazed on that beautiful valley below. Those wonders of nature, could never surpass the beauty that shone in your beautiful face; and those love songs I sang to your heart long ago, rang over the hills and the valley below. It was often we walked by the Shannon’s broad stream; I was Thomond’s young king and you were my queen. Our dreams of the future seemed ever aglow, as we made our way home to that valley below. Of all your attractions, and so many are they – ‘twas the truth in your heart that won my love for aye! In the old city we wed, as September’s soft glow spread over the hills to that valley below. We have partnered each other bor quite a long time, and we took some hard knocks – but our joys were sublime! We were blessed with the children and in time saw them go but the values we taught them may help carry them through. Then when our time comes and they lay us to rest, near the yews and the hollies with those we loved best; then the love songs I sang to your heart long ago may re-echo again o’er that valley below… Yes, the love songs I sang to your heart long ago, may re-echo again o’er that valley below.
